Re-reading Harry Potter

I meant to report on this much earlier, but over my birthday weekend I got to see Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1. And was it ever amazing! Probably my favorite of the movies so far. The few people I've talked to who weren't absolutely in love with it said that the slowness of it was part of the problem. While I think this is a valid point, it didn't detract from my love.

There were so many things to love! Beautiful scenery, all the Harry's, Bill Weasley!, George Weasley drinking coffee (tea?) with something sticking out his ear hole, Ron gazing at Hermione, scary Nagini, crazy Bellatrix, terrified Lucius Malfoy, even more terrified Draco Malfoy, Dobby and Creacher, Ron gazing at Hermione (wait did I say that already?), the much improved acting of all 3 of our main characters, the scariness, the tears, all the Polyjuice potion, the ministry of magic, Luna and her dad, and much more!

Okay, I could post a BILLION more pictures (I think these are all from listall.com)

After I saw the movie, I asked Karen (she's the assistant to the Library Director and she is awesome) if she had seen the movie yet and she revealed a horrible secret to me...She has only read/seen the first Harry Potter! Well, as you know, this is unacceptable! So together we are reading them (well listening) together and when we finish each book we'll probably watch the corresponding movie! This is so great because, except for Goblet of Fire, I've never reread a HP book! And I read Harry Potter and the Soceror's Stone when it was first published in America...that was 1999, you guys! You were all 4-6 year olds!

I'm thinking of posting a quick entry for each book as I finish complete with what I remembered thinking of the book when I first read it and my thoughts on it now that I've finished the series. What do you think?

I think you should DEFINITELY write an entry with your thoughts on each book :) That'd be quite interesting to read.

Summer 2021 Recommendations for Your High School Reader!

Summer is fast approaching and if you have a high school reader, you might be looking for new titles to engage them this summer. Librarian, historian, and author Alexandria Brown has allowed us to share their recommended lists to help make that easier! Per their blog*: As a high school librarian, offering reading recommendations for students is one of my favorite parts of my job. These lists are for parents, library workers, and teen readers... I created these lists through an alchemy involving age of the protagonists, themes, genre, tone, complexity, reader skill/comfortability level, events and topics a student will likely encounter in their studies during the school year, and books they are unlikely to read for school. I also tried to pick materials that published in the last few years or will be published by June 2021. Preference to #ownvoices and marginalized authors. Below you'll find links to their lists broken up by grade level. Whether you know an avid reader who always...

Coraline Trailer!

Here's the best trailer for Coraline so far. And it's actually Neil Gaiman's (he wrote the book) favorite! The movie comes out February 6th and I'll definitely be seeing it that weekend, so if you want to see it with me let me know and we can get a group of people to see it together! I know Kathleen and Mallory are already on board! dftba, Sti
