Reading Challenges!

I know I don't need them since I've always got a huge list of books waiting to be read, but when I found this website: http://novelchallenges.blogspot.com/ I was hooked.

Hopefully I won't get sucked in too much, but there is at least one challenge I will be participating in, and that's the Neil Gaiman Challenge "The Dream King Challenge." Here are the rules:
Neophyte: Read one work and watch one movie
Acolyte: Read three works (from three different categories) and watch one movie
Devotee: Read six works (from six different categories) and watch one movie
Zealot: Read twelve works (from at least six different categories) and watch one movie

There will also be mini-challenges (with prizes!) and other fun activities during the year. Re-reads are okay - I'm sure a lot of us have already read a few of Neil's books before. This challenge can (and will!) overlap with other challenges. I would suggest J. Kaye's Young Adult Reading Challenge and Laza's Graphic Novel Challenge. If you'd like to join, leave a comment below or send an email to xjessideex [at] gmail [dot] com. I'll send you an invitation to post on the blog.

I'm shooting for Devotee, though I may venture into Zealot territory before the year is over. :) Here's my proposed list:

Movie: Neverwhere or Beowulf
Non-fiction: Don't Panic: Douglas Adams and the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
Fiction: Neverwhere or American Gods (both rereads)
Childrens: Odd Frost and the Giants
Young Adult: Coraline (the novel, I've already read the graphic novel)
Short Story: Smoke and Mirrors
Graphic Novel: Preludes and Nocturnes in the Sandman series (this is where I'll probably go over into Zealot...)
Other: Prince of Stories: The Many Worlds of Neil Gaiman (which I'm reading right now, and it is awesome!)
Let me know if there are any you're thinking of joining yourself!
Cheers,
Sti

Hi, Christina! Welcome to the Dream King Challenge. :) I've added you to the blogroll; send me an e-mail (xjessideex [at] gmail [dot] com), and I'll send you an invite to post on the blog as well. Good luck, and have fun!

I'll play! I may only reach Neophyte level, but at least it's something!

I think I have come up with my challenge for this year. It's the Recommend It Challenge!

I have to read every book someone recommends to me this year. Anytime someone recommends that I read a book I will write it down and then I have all year to read the book. The same person can recommend another book to me after a month, whether I have read the first book yet or not.

Zaki Con 2019: Cosplay Contest!

The final event  of Zaki Con is our cosplay contest. I assume you're familiar with cosplay if you're reading, but just in case you aren't: cosplay is " the practice of dressing up as a character from a movie, book, or video game, especially one from the Japanese genres of manga and anime." And anyone can do it! Young and old alike are adorable when dressing as their favorite characters from books, movies, and anime! At Zaki Con, we want to see your interpretation of cosplay! You can enter as one person or as a group (though groups will have to share prizes if they win). All you have to do is come dressed as your favorite character. Since Zaki Con is a family event and it is held in the public library, all costumes must be appropriate for our setting and audience! Entries will be judged by a panel of judges from the library and the community. We look forward to seeing your cosplays during the Con and at the contest which will be held at 5:00pm on Saturda

Duct Tape Pencil Bag

 1. Gather supplies.  2. Unwrap one length of duct tape and carefully set plastic bag on top. Go slowly so there are no air bubbles in the duct tape! 3. Unwrap other color of duct tape and tape the opposite side of the bag. 4. Trim extra duct tape off. 5. Continue adding duct tape (You can do all one color on each side or alternate like I did. Trim sides so everything is even.  6. Optional, if you want to store your pencil bag in your binder, mark where the rings are located. 6. Use a hole punch to make holes. 7. Decorate with stickers or permanent markers!
