A few new books

A great batch of YA books just came across my desk, here are a few that really intrigue me.

Paul Varderman could be at any normal school - bullies, girls and annoying teachers are just a part of life. Unfortunately 'normal' doesn't apply when it comes to the school's most evil bully, Roth, a twisted and threatening thug with an agenda quite unlike anyone else. When Paul ends up delivering a message from Roth to the leader of a gang at a nearby school, it fuels a rivalry with immediate consequences. Soon he's being spied on, followed by classmates-and worst of all, forced to accept the headmaster's perfectly behaved daughter as his girlfriend. He can feel himself becoming more obedient, more like his classmates. Storm tries to resist, but he doesn't understand how or why the school is controlling him.

Can Storm escape-or will he be turned into a zombie of "good" behavior like everyone else around him?

In New York City, three fourteen-year-old best friends who are all daughters of celebrities watch out for each other as they try to strike a balance between ordinary high school events, such as finding a date for the homecoming dance, and family functions like walking the red carpet with their famous parents.


In many ways, Natalie O'Reilly is a typical fourteenyear- old girl. But a routine visit to the eye doctor produces devastating news: Natalie will lose her sight within a few short months.

Suddenly her world is turned upside down. Natalie is sent to a school for the blind to learn skills such as Braille and how to use a cane. Outwardly, she does as she's told; inwardly, she hopes for a miracle that will free her from a dreaded life of blindness. But the miracle does not come, and Natalie ultimately must confront every blind person's dilemma. Will she go home to live scared? Or will she embrace the skills she needs to make it in a world without sight?

Raven Cycle Fan Art!

So. The inimitable Maggie Stiefvater created a deck of tarot cards based on her Raven Cyle series and she's holding a contest to give away 10 decks of them. Keith decided he couldn't do anything worthy but he thought I could.  Since I'd just completed a project using acorns, I thought: "Hey, I could make The Acorn Boys!" And Keith's response was: "You were put on this earth to make Acorn Boys."  And so, I present to you, The Acorn Boys based on The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater.  First we have our heroine Blue Sargent, daughter of psychics but no psychic herself. She reminds her mom of the Page of Cups and gets called Blue Lily by a crazy lady (I chose a Calla lily because I like them better than the other kind, plus I love Calla). She is known for her DIY style and short, dark hair. I made up the rest of her face because there isn't a ton of description about it, but we know she's tiny because she didn't eat her vegetables.  ...
