Get Ready to Take Bite!

Next week is Teen Read Week! This is a week that spotlights the importance of reading in the lives of teens. We know you have a lot of other things on your plate: school, extra-curricular activities, family and friends and that there are a lot of other things you could do with your time besides read. But the American Library Association (ALA) wants everyone to know how awesome reading is--something you probably already know. But, did you know that teens who read for fun score higher on tests and 'are more likely to succeed in the workforce.' Isn't that cool? I think it is. :)

So I'll be spotlighting Books with Bite (mostly vampire/zombie/monsters, maybe some books about food too. Mmmm food. Now I'm hungry).

I'll also be showing a classic horror movie with some bite. On Wednesday October 15th at 6:30 we'll be watching Dracula starring Bela Lugosi. There will be snacks and drinks as well!

And in honor of Teen Read Week, I'll be giving a prize to the first person who comments on this post! :)

Hope you get bitten by a good book soon,
Sti

Coraline Trailer!

Here's the best trailer for Coraline so far. And it's actually Neil Gaiman's (he wrote the book) favorite! The movie comes out February 6th and I'll definitely be seeing it that weekend, so if you want to see it with me let me know and we can get a group of people to see it together! I know Kathleen and Mallory are already on board! dftba, Sti

First Blog Ever!

Well, this is the launch of the new Friendswood Library Young Adult Blog. I chose the name Book Bag after looking at the names of some other libraries' blog titles, but if there is a better name out there, let me know! I created this blog primarily so you can find out what activities are coming up for the 11-16 age group here at the library. I'll be posting brief descriptions of our activities, photos, book reviews, and other interesting things that I happen to see. In recent news: the TAG Christmas party was December 8, and everyone worked together to make it a success. Thanks to all the hardworking volunteers! We ate holiday snacks, sang Christmas karaoke, and had a snowball fight outside! Check out the library's Flickr site for all the pictures. We're taking a brief break during the Christmas holidays, but we'll be starting up again on January 11 with personalizing snack dishes to use every week. Instead of throwing away bowls and cups after our Fr...
