Whew!

I love the holidays as much as the next person, but they can definitely be exhausting. Luckily they are drawing to a close, and so is the year 2007.

To welcome the New Year, I thought I'd post a few fun things.
  • Was I the only that thought using cds as decorations was a little outdated? I've redecorated the young adult section of the library with red paper lanterns left behind by the wonderful Lisa.
  • I put a comment box out in the Young Adult section along with some review slips so you can let me and your friends know what books you've enjoyed recently.
  • There is a "Staff Picks" display up in the Young Adult section as well. If you ever wondered what books we read in our spare time, you can get an idea there!
For all you quiz takers out there, I just took a quiz to see which character from the graphic novel "Plain Janes" I would be:

badge Which PLAIN Jane Are You?

Main Jane

As the leader of the pack, you are always looking out for your friends and working to make your group pretty tight knit.

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban the second time around

Sirius Black's Wanted Poster Title/Year originally published: Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban/1999 When I originally read it: 1999, I believe I got it for Christmas… What I thought of it then: When I first read this book I thought parts of it were the saddest things I’d ever read. When Harry overhears that his parents’ best friend betrayed them to Voldemort and was so angry he wanted to kill Sirius Black I cried, a lot. Besides that I thought the whole Time Turner device was really nifty on J.K.'s part (yeah, we're close, I can call her that*). I loved Lupin and the fact that chocolate is the remedy for when you've had all your worst memories brought to mind by Dementors.I also always love Scabbers so I was really sad when he turned out to be the betrayer of Lily and James Potter. Sigh. When I re-read it: January 2011 What my thoughts are now: This book is so great, I can see why it's a lot of people's favorite of the series. I mean, c'mon t...

Raven Cycle Fan Art!

So. The inimitable Maggie Stiefvater created a deck of tarot cards based on her Raven Cyle series and she's holding a contest to give away 10 decks of them. Keith decided he couldn't do anything worthy but he thought I could.  Since I'd just completed a project using acorns, I thought: "Hey, I could make The Acorn Boys!" And Keith's response was: "You were put on this earth to make Acorn Boys."  And so, I present to you, The Acorn Boys based on The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater.  First we have our heroine Blue Sargent, daughter of psychics but no psychic herself. She reminds her mom of the Page of Cups and gets called Blue Lily by a crazy lady (I chose a Calla lily because I like them better than the other kind, plus I love Calla). She is known for her DIY style and short, dark hair. I made up the rest of her face because there isn't a ton of description about it, but we know she's tiny because she didn't eat her vegetables.  ...
