Deconstructive Journals!

Hey guys, tomorrow we'll be starting our deconstructive journals! Now I know you've always been told not to write in books or rip out their pages. And normally I agree with these rules, but there are times when rules are meant to be broken! Deconstructive Journals or Altered Books are old books that have been made into art. You can do anything you want with them, use them as a scrapbook, photo album, journal, and canvas--there are no wrong answers. I'll be bringing my deconstructive journals so ya'll can get some ideas for your own. But in the meantime, here are a few examples of what altered books can become: This artist's book is an ongoing project: http://karenswhimsy.com/altered-books/happiness/ Hope this gives you some ideas! See you tomorrow, Christina

Apples, Oranges, and Bagels Oh My!

Thanks to everyone who came in yesterday to make bagel pizzas and fruit salad. I had a lot of fun! I thought I would post a few of the best pictures here. Coming Soon: Check out the Young Adult section of the library for a brand new display of books, and the new Peer Reviewed Board! Have a great weekend everyone! Christina

My apologies!

Sorry about the canceled TAG meeting last night, everyone. I was sick and didn't want to make you all listen to me sniffle all day! If there was anything you wanted to share at the meeting you can post it here as a comment or you can email me at librariansti@gmail.com. But fear not, come rain or shine, we will be hanging out this Friday after school. And we'll be making snacks, so bring your appetites with you! Christina

Decorating Snack Dishes

Thanks to everyone who came and decorated dishes on Friday! We'll be reusing them each week to cut down on the waste of styrofoam cups and bowls. Unfortunately, (or perhaps fortunately for you!) Friendswood Junior High has early dismissal this Friday, so there is no activity. Hope I will see you around anyway! ~Christina

First TAG Meeting of 2008!

Hey guys! We had our first TAG meeting of the year last night, and I think it went pretty well! We discussed some of the events we'll be planning and brainstormed some more ideas such as a Valentine's Day Party/Dance and some others. If you have any other ideas you can email me with suggestions or just find me at the library. I also mentioned that we have unveiled the new teen site on our homepage. http://www.friendswood.lib.tx.us/teen%20info/index.htm You can also find a link to this blog there. You should also know that there are book reviews to fill out in the young adult section. Let your friends know what books you've liked recently and which ones you hated! I'll be creating a bulletin board of your reviews so everyone can benefit from them and I'll also be posting them here.
