Hey all! Thought I should dust off the blog and talk about our plans for this Spring! As usual, we've got Video Games every Tuesday (4:30-5:30), Teen Advisory Group Meetings every Wednesday (4:30-5:30), and crafts every Friday (4:30-5:30).  But we've got a few special things in store for you as well! Starting with... The Reichenbach Ball Do you watch the BBC series Sherlock? If you haven't heard of it, let me tell you all about it! It's a modern adaptation of Sherlock Holmes, and it is fantastic. Seriously. We're big fans of it here at the library, and, with the conclusion of third season the Teen Advisory Group decided we needed a celebration that was all Sherlock! We're calling it The Reichenbach Ball and it is going to be excellent. On Saturday February 8th from 6:00-8:00 we'll be meeting at the library dressed in our finest (or cosplay if that's what you'd prefer). We'll have some discussions about all the fangirly feels we...

If you've visited the YA area in the past month or so, you've probably noticed our new furniture additions. If you haven't noticed, you really should work on your observational skills! Last Wednesday we got our latest piece of furniture, and it's addition was something of an adventure, so I thought I'd share the day with you through pictures. Hey, it's nearly summer! Are you ready for the Summer Reading Club? We have some really cool prizes for the YA Summer Reading Club this year. For Stage 1 (3 hours)- you'll get a certi ficate and envelope full of free stuff around town. Free Whataburger, Astros tickets and lo ts more! Stage 2 (6 more hours)- earbud holder. I hate it when my earbuds get all tangled, th is is a great way to stop that! Stage 3 (12 more hours)- Superhero Rubber Ducky! And Pool Party permission slip ( the Pool Part y is July 14) Stage 4 (24 more hours)- Stressball with the cutest little fa ce! Happy first day of the 2012-2013 school year!  I hope you're excited about all the new things you're going to learn in the coming months. Okay, so there's no TAG meeting tomorrow (sad, I know!) but we will meet again next Thursday! In the meantime, join us for some movies! Friday we'll be having Part 1 of a Miyazaki Movie program, you'll get to choose from some Studio Ghibli films: Laputa: Castle in the Sky, Whisper of the Heart, Ponyo and (of course) Howl's Moving Castle. We'll start the movie this Friday and finish it next Friday. On Saturday I'll be in the library all day long, so feel free to stop by and say hi! At 2:00 I'll be hosting a movie screening of Tangled which is open for all ages. If you're babysitting, or want some extra 'good child' points in your parents' eyes bring your younger siblings with you to watch Tangled here at the library! I'm very excited, I've never seen it! If you've been to a TAG meeting recently you've heard us talking about Halloween already (it's never too early to talk about Halloween, in my opinion), you've probably heard mention of this year's theme which is steampunk book pirate or "Book"aneersas I like to call us. Curious about what steampunk is? I love this description: "It's imagining a direction that the Universe took, it's kind of Victorian and yet you have these futuristic steampowered contraptions." which is from a great video from PBS: I hope this gives you some ideas about the steampunk genre and gets you excited about creating a costume for the TAG Halloween in the Park booth! "It's exciting! You should participate!" ~Lisa, our video editing guru Here's how it goes, the Teen Advisory Group has chosen their 16 favorite YA books and we're going to find out which is the rest of the library's favorite! The books are paired up, vote for your favorite of each pair and turn it in in the ballot box. If you haven't read the books, no worries! We've got 'scouting reports' with some info about the books as well as some reviews by TAG members for you to watch (I'll be posting those here soon)!
